Good Times with Goodby: Five reasons we love Goodby

Recently, this past Thursday, we were lucky enough to receive the presence of one Zach Canfield. Mr. Canfield took some time out of his vacation to Utah to come and visit the adlab. Most people don’t realize it but the Adlab is one of the top tourist attractions of Utah. It lands somewhere between Moab and this really great breakfast place in Midvale. Either way, we must be a hotspot because we are sure getting a lot of agency visits!

So Zach is from Goodby Silverstein and Partners. He is a creative recruiter there and has also spent some time at another agency called W+K. So between these two places he has gained some experience that he wanted to rain down on us like creative fire from heaven and we all loved … getting … burned. That last analogy seemed to spiral out of control towards the end but either way having Zach here was amazing. So amazing in fact that there isn’t room enough to list all the reasons we loved it, so we decided to pick the top five reasons we loved the visit from Goodby.

  1. We love having our minds blown. Here at the adlab we are constantly striving to melt our brains with awesomeness. Zach was no exception. The reel he presented was full of campaigns we loved as kids and campaigns we loved the other day. It seemed like every two seconds people were turning and saying, “I didn’t know Goodby did that!” I think the janitor probably hated this meeting because there was lots of brains to clean up afterward from minds being blown.
  2. One on one awesomeness. It wasn’t enough that Zach come out here and wow us as a group, he wanted to wow us on an individual level as well. Several people from the creative track both this year and last year were given an opportunity to present their books to Zach for review. Zach was very positive with all of us and gave great feedback. Who knows, maybe the next Goodby intern is among us? Maybe it could be you!
  3. He inspired us to be just like…well ourselves. Zach talked a lot about being yourself. He told us to show who we are and what makes us unique. He said once you find out who you are, own that. So if you are guy who wakes up and watches cartoons in superhero pajamas then own that. You may never get married or have a steady girlfriend but you will be who you are and that might just be what lands you a dream job.
  4. Zach influenced us to try for the best. He talked a lot about not letting your first job go to the luck of the draw. He said that doing research and finding out where you want to go is very important. It’s like looking for a spouse, you never settle, until your 40 then you marry that one girl who agreed to marry you if neither of you were married by 40. Man, my analogies are not hitting home today.
  5. Finally, we love getting risky. Go out in the world and take a risk. Always have a project going, even if it’s only going in the back of your mind. Zach said if you can make something real and have it be successful, that is a sure sign that you’ve got talent and can do it again. So all you bloggers out there, maybe it’s time you start up that special site devoted to Jersey’s Shore. Who knows, you get enough followers you might find yourself at Goodby and if you do, you’ll be one of the luckiest people we know!
