Despite taking a News Writing class, I’m not a journalist. But if I was tasked with writing a hard news article about the AdLab it might read something like this….
PROVO —Once upon a time, there was this guy named Jeff Sheets. He wanted to give students real world advertising experience. So he created the Advanced Advertising Lab. Also known as the AdLab. Since its creation, students have worked on campaigns for Nestle, Haagen Dazs, Holiday Inn, Butterfinger, Nike, and Gatorade. The students have created music videos. They have won awards. They have slept on the couch in the lab with a gross mystery green Snuggie. They have been published in the papers. What ever they are doing, though, they are doing it well.
My news writing abilities may not be great but luckily, Amanda Butterfield, with KSL and Desert News, has those news writing chops. Her article followed proper AP Styling, an inverted pyramid, had a nut graph, and told our story. Not everyone can tell a great story right, but we’re sure glad she can!
