Here’s to Katie

Katie and unicorn cake on dream rainbow of skittles
The end of the semester is looming, which means we say goodbye to 2011 and goodbye to the amazing people who are leaving us and moving on to do great things in the world. One of the people the Adlab has been blessed to have this semester is our amazing manager Katie Nelson.

Katie came in to help manage the lab as we prepared to send Jeff off to the Laycock Center, and in the process she became our friend and a great source of advice when dealing with anything from stubborn clients to carving pumpkins. While sitting over there in her corner, Katie was making deals, managing budgets, screening new business, delegating out tasks, and scheduling meetings, all so that we could go about working on our projects and listening to Justin Bieber’s “Mistletoe.” She calls the all powerful Layne when we need late-night access so security doesn’t kick us out into the dark streets of BYU at 1 o’clock in the morning. She talked me down when I wanted to call a client a d***** and convinced me that it might be more prudent to tell them “I’m confused on the direction you want to go; let’s reestablish what your expectations are.” She negotiated to get the credit card when a great wall of pumpkins needed to be constructed on a cold October night. She even ordered the pizza for focus groups so people would actually come to focus whilst in a group.

Basically, Katie did a whole heck of a lot of work for us, and we know that this excellence will only carry on as she enters the world of advertising with the big dawgs. So in order to thank her for all of her hard work and dedication and overall awesomeness in the Adlab, we thought it appropriate to make her a cake; but not just any cake boys and girls — a magical unicorn cake riding it’s dreams on a rainbow of Skittles…because that’s exactly what Katie is going is going to do :)
