The Advertising Students in the BYU AdLab had the pleasure of hearing from the founders of the first all-female-founded ad agency to land on the AdAge A-List, Terri Meyer and Sandy Greenberg of Terri&Sandy in NYC. They shared their vision of “wanting to found an agency where people could be happy” and gather a collection of “people with integrity.” They shared their philosophy to “make friends with everyone you come in contact with” because that is when you make the best creative work together.
They taught us about how to become indispensable to your agency but when hitting a glass ceiling, the best advice is “go where you’re celebrated, not tolerated.” And they shared their enthusiasm, and passion, and to continue to “be a student of advertising. always” by “showing that they are passionate about the industry. Your reputation is everything.”
We felt so blessed to be with them and learn from them, and while we often say with our alums working out in NYC that it’s like a little start-up office of “AdLab East” with the genuine love, grace, and integrity we felt from Terri and Sandy we definitely felt proud to want to call our AdLab a little start-up office of “Terri&Sandy West.” They liked that so much they took to LinkedIn and started calling us that! It was an amazing experience for the AdLab students and we were so proud to have the original “Mad Girls” (that was their first proposed agency name) present and meet with our MadGals (that’s the AdLab initiative to empower females in advertising).
